Gustika Jusuf-Hatta

Gustika Yusuf, 25 years of age, the granddaughter of Muhammad Hatta – the Proclaimer. She once became a trending topic due to her sharp criticism towards Dahniel Simanjuntak, Campaigner for Prabowo – Sandi, when he compared Sandiaga Uno to Hatta. “Obviously different. One is a corporate figure, the other is cooperatives figure. The values between them are totally different,” said the daughter of Halida Hatta and Gary Rachman Jusuf. “I am so done. Every Presidential election his name is mentioned but in reality, no one ever did anything even close to what my grandfather did.”

Just like her grandfather, Gustika’s eyes gleamed with intelligence. A chit chat with her confirmed her brain quality. Gustika had just completed her education at King’s College, London. She was majoring the Art of War.

Art of War? Why? “Because learning about war is always relevant anytime.” War used to be more simplistic, who against who. Now, with ISIS, radicalisms, war is far more complex. “It is more difficult. We don’t know exactly what to do.”

Fighting against radicalism for Gustika is not a simple thing. It is not enough just by campaigning on ‘Don’t join ISIS or other radical groups.’, “A holistic approach through the social, cultural, economy and the political channel is necessary”

Dreams? “Becomes a useful person for this country. It sounds cliché, but it’s true.”

Gustika wants Indonesia to have more significant roles at the international level. “That is why I want to enter the international diplomacy arena, joining the UN.” She thinks, at the moment, Indonesia is lacking representation at the international forums. “There are so many vacancies at various international bodies, but very rarely people from Indonesia would apply.”

What was the most impressive value you found in Bung Hatta? “Grandpa and grandma’s story has always been inspiring.” Her parents always told her how Bung Hatta and Rahmi Hatta lived modestly and always prioritise others. “Grandma never had a long chat over the phone. Always short calls. She said, the State Secretariat pays for the phone bills, I don’t want the bill becomes too high.”
