Miss Juana

Good morning!

I am so happy today. This morning, my teacher, Miss Juana put on a big smile. She took Nyeser and Besimbur, two of the Orang Rimba tribe’s children who continued their education to Air Panas Elementary School, outside Bukit Dua Belas National Park in Jambi.

A few of Orang Rimba’s children who wanted to continue their education to Elementary, Middle and High Schools spent a night at KKI Warsi Office in Bukit Suban village, by the Bukit Dua Belas National Park. Of course, because if they stayed in the jungle, they would need hours to walk every morning.

Adapting is never easy, especially to the rules and regulations of the school. Never mind the birth certificate, even documenting the date of birth was never a custom for Orang Rimba. They only use simple time stamp such as, “He was born when that thick smoke happened.”

So, the KKI Warsi team helped them for the proceedings to obtain Family Card from the local authorities. “Date of birth cannot be left empty, so we agreed that all of the children of Orang Rimba were born on the 1st of July,” Yo said. “As for the year, we just guesstimate it.”

Al the best, children!
